Creating a cloud in a jar and extracting DNA from a strawberry are just two of the activities that housebound children and their families can learn how to do as Aberdeen Science Centre moves online with its programme of activities.

The new programme, which will be launched this week, will provide a fun and learning resource covering the sciences and will include “how-to” videos and blogs on experiments which can easily be done at home without the need for any specialist equipment.

“We always plan an exciting range of activities during the Easter holidays and although the format will be very different this year, we have drawn up a programme which will be engaging and interesting for all ages,” said Elaine Holland, Head of Operations at Aberdeen Science Centre.

“It’s a fantastic learning platform which people can dip in and out of any time, but there will be a strong emphasis on showing that science is a lot of fun. In addition to a series of blogs throughout the month, we will also signpost other online resources which people can use.”

During April, the centre’s activities will focus on some of the national and international days which are coming up during the month including Look Up at the Sky Day, the globally celebrated Earth Day and the USA’s National DNA Day.

The centre will continue to run online activities beyond the Easter holidays and topics covered in May will include blogs relating to space and astronauts.
